How To Keep A Morning Routine While Traveling (And Why You Should)

Hey friends! As you probably know, I like having my routines. I try to do (mostly) the same thing every morning and every night. And I especially try to keep up with a morning routine while I’m traveling. It helps create a sense of normalcy when the rest of the day will be hectic. Keep reading for tips on how to keep a morning routine below!

I’m focusing on morning routines, but this could also be a night routine (PS. keep an eye out for¬†my traveling night routine coming soon ūüėČ )

How To Keep A Morning Routine While Traveling (And Why You Should)

Tip #1: Create your ideal morning routine that you can do no matter where you are in the world. My morning routine (which you can read below) can be done either at home or on the road while minor changes. Having a morning routine can keep you sane, especially when your days are jam-packed with activities. It’s a consistent thing in your life.

Tip #2: But be realistic. Some days can just go to shit (pardon my french) and it’s out of your hands. That’s life and it’s okay. You can’t start every day the same but you can try your best. I say that about 5 out of 7 days I’m able to keep a routine at home. While traveling though, probably about 4 out of 7 days. I try my best though.

Tip #3:¬†Let yourself adjust to the time differences. The trick? Stay awake until at least 8 pm in whatever time zone you’re in, no matter how tired you are from traveling. This way you’ll be able to get a full night’s sleep and ready to tackle the first full day at your destination.

Tip #4: Eat a good breakfast. At home, I love to eat whole grain waffles with some strawberries. Or two eggs (over easy) with some toast On the road? I’m open to trying the local breakfast cuisine. Luckily, I have no food allergies. But if you do….

Tip #5: Plan ahead. If you have food allergies especially, you’ll need to plan and research beforehand. Even though I’m just a vegetarian, I still need to research restaurants before we go eat there. Although you really should plan ahead in general. Unless you’re the type to be super spontaneous… which I’m not lol. I used to use a super cute planner that I got at Target¬†but now I use¬†Wunderlist on my phone for everything.

My Usual Morning Routine

I don’t know about you, but I NEED caffeine in the morning. I start my day by drinking a cup (or two) of cappuccino and reading from whatever book I’m currently enjoying. Currently, I’m rereading the Harry Potter series. Again, for the 1,000,000th time.

Then, I eat breakfast.¬†I’m not usually hungry when I wake up so I take about 10 minutes before eating. I also make sure to eat though because otherwise, I get pretty hangry lol.

After eating, I do¬†my makeup – it’s a self-indulgent process that I revel in. I try to wear makeup most days because I love the way it makes me feel. Of course, there are days that I go makeup free that I love just as much… but nothing beats the process of putting on makeup for me.

Next, I plan out my day. I am a big organizer. If I had it my way, I would plan my day to the second. But I settle on planning it hour to hour lol.

Then I read the news РI love the news app on my iPhone and I usually spend an hour or so scrolling through and catching up on world events. It can be depressing sometimes but I also want to stay informed.

And lastly, I check social media – I need to scroll through Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, whatever. I love seeing what my friends and family are up to. And I also get a lot of blog post ideas through social media so it’s a win-win.
